Laowa 7.5mm f2 Lens Review - Initial impression

A man came to my house with a box. In the box, there was the new Laowa 7.5mm f2 lens, which I ordered from UK Optics when it was announced. I'm currently on the hunt for lenses for the Appalachian Trail which I am hoping to attempt next year - a compact, fast ultrawide seemed like just the ticket. I sold my 20mm f1.7 and one of my old manual Pentax lenses and placed the order. The first thing that struck me is just how small this lens is. It is tiny, especially for an ultrawide - about the same size and shape as the Olympus 25mm f1.8. The Laowa 7.5mm f2 on my GM5. Truly diminuitive ( forgive the crap quality - phone camera ) It is also solidly built. It's metal throughout with a reassuring feel. The focus ring is fairly stiff but smooth, with all the focusing going on internally. The aperture ring has fairly shallow but distinct clicks. Astrophotography with the Laowa 7.5mm f2 lens

I went out last night to a field ten minutes walk from my house. I couldn't really bring myself to drive somewhere dark - it was late and I was tired. I thought I'd just accept the light pollution near my hometown and see what I got. People have asked me on the web whether the Laowa 7.5mm lens is any good for astrophotography. I am no experienced purveyor of the night sky, but I'd say from my amateur efforts that the answer is a resounding 'yes'. These were all shot at f2.8 with varying ISOs and shutter speeds. Need to get somewhere darker....

Laowa 7.5mm Lens Review - Part 2

Recently I wrote about my latest acquisition - the Laowa 7.5mm ultrawide lens for micro four thirds. I scribbled a quick initial impression on the lens but had the opportunity to take it out for a more substantial spin over the weekend since then. My partner and I hiked 30 miles with Pack Major (the big bags, as opposed to Pack Minor - anything less substantial than that) including a cheeky wild camp and a visit to my parents for Father's Day. The 7.5mm stayed on my camera for the majority of the time as I got used to the new focal length - much wider than any (non-fisheye) I've ever used before.
